Community Involvement Hours

Dear Parents, Guardians and Caregivers,

As you may know, as part of the requirements for an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), all students must complete a minimum of 40 hours of community involvement activities prior to graduation. The purpose of the community involvement requirement is to encourage students to develop awareness and understanding of civic responsibility and of the role they can play and the contributions they can make in supporting and strengthening their communities.

PPM 124 Ontario Secondary School Diploma requirement: Community Involvement Activities, was amended by the Ministry of Education earlier this year and the Board has created a newly revised Community Involvement Activities Guide which includes updated information, a list of suggested community involvement activities, and a revised tracking form.

The list of activities included in the revised guide has been developed in collaboration with secondary schools, the CDSBEO Indigenous Education Department, the Special Education Advisory Committee, Catholic School Councils, and in consultation with the Ontario School Boards’ Insurance Exchange (OSBIE). The list supports a wide spectrum of student interests, talents, and lived experiences and provides some examples of opportunities in different areas of Eastern Ontario.

The newly amended form accommodates the requirement for principals to approve all activities prior to student participation. All information and a copy of the new guide can be found on the CDSBEO website at: Community Involvement – Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario – CDSBEO

Please contact Mr. Lovett should you have any questions.

Thank you,St. Francis Xavier CHS
